Our family-friendly accommodation is perfect for a summer getaway, with a whole host of activities in Derbyshire and the Peak District. We have compiled a suggested itinerary for your stay, which keeps the whole family entertained and allows you to see the best of the local area.

Day 1

Check in at 4pm

Go for dinner in a local, family-friendly pub. The Miners Arms is under a mile from Shiningford, while The Hanging Gate is just down the road from Hollywood House.

Toast marshmallows around the fire pits at Standlow Farm, or relax for the rest of the evening in the hot tub at Shepherd’s View Lodge.

.

Day 2

For theme-park lovers, Alton Towers is a must! Smaller children can explore CBeebies Land; and for anyone who isn’t a fan of rides, try out the water park or crazy golf.

Stop at Ashbourne on your way back through for a walk around the pretty market town, with numerous cafes and restaurants. It is also a chance to stock up the fridge, being where you will find the closest supermarkets to Standlow Farm, Shepherd’s View Lodge and Shiningford.

Day 3

Visit Chatsworth House and Gardens. There is something for everyone, with a brilliant play area and a fantastic farm shop. Children aged 6-11 can even help out in caring for the farmyard animals on Wednesdays throughout August, from 1.30pm-4.30pm.

If you have time, stop in at nearby Bakewell for a chance to taste the original Bakewell Tart!

Day 4

Stay closer to home for a relaxing day at Carsington Water, where you can walk or hire bikes to cycle around the beautiful reservoir. The visitor centre has an educational section for kids, a restaurant, cafe and a few shops. There is also a large children’s play area and the option to take on a water sport.

The market town of Wirksworth is just a couple of miles away, and a great spot for dinner or to see a film at the independent cinema. If you’re staying at Hollywood House, the Ritz Cinema is nearby for tea and cake on the sofa!

Day 5

Make the most of the facilities before you check-out at 10am. Have a dip in the pool at Hollywood House, or play in the games room if you are staying at Standlow Farm. If you need more time, why not extend your stay to a full week?
