The holidays are coming and the festive events are rolling in! If you’re staying in Derbyshire this winter, here are some of the best attractions and Christmas events in the area:

 

A Nordic Christmas at Chatsworth

Chatsworth have famously impressive Christmas displays, and this year is set to be no exception. Tickets should be booked in advance for the house tour, garden woodland walk, or parking for the Christmas market. The market is running from the 5th-23rd November, while the house and garden Nordic Christmas is on until the 8th January.

 

Denby Pottery Village Santa Experience

Denby Pottery Village launch their festive events on the 11th November, with Christmas craft sessions where you can make Christmas tree decorations or wreaths. There is a Santa experience for children, and even an afternoon tea with Father Christmas.

 

Haddon Hall Winter Artisan Market

Between the 17th November to the 4th December, Haddon Hall are hosting 12 Mercatum Winter Markets. Pick up some unique gifts with an enjoyable shopping experience. Entry is £7.50, which includes parking.

 

Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Christmas Markets

If you are looking for pretty towns in the Peak District, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock are fantastic ones to explore. Over the weekend of the 19th-20th November, you can visit the Christmas markets at Bakewell or Buxton, with live music and hot food. If you are staying with us between the 2nd-4th December, head to Matlock instead for their Victorian Christmas market in the town centre. You can find Santa’s Grotto and stay for the grand finale fireworks display on Sunday evening.

 

Meet Father Christmas at Bolsover Castle

Every weekend between 26th November – 18th December, children can meet Santa at Bolsover Castle. The English Heritage site is a great day out for the family, with restored gardens and a castle-themed play area.

 

Festive Days Out at Matlock Farm Park

Santa’s grotto opens on the 27th November and breakfast with Father Christmas is available for bookings from the 3rd December. Family tickets are from £46, with the option of adding on a meeting with the big man himself!

 

Pipes in the Peaks – Christmas Spectacular

Tickets are £15, and include refreshments and mince pies. They must be booked at least 14 days in advance for any of these concert dates: Sunday 4th December, Saturday 10th December, Sunday 11th December or Sunday 18th December.

 

Christmas in Ashbourne

With free parking from 2pm in all council car parks this December, it’s easy to attend the festive events in Ashbourne this year. From 5.30pm on Friday 9th December, there is a Lantern Spectacular, followed by a Christmas Fair on the 10th December between 10am-4pm in The Pavilion. The adults can enjoy a glass of mulled wine while the kids meet Santa!

 

Carsington Water’s Christmas Trail

On the 17th December between 10am-3pm, enjoy the crisp winter air with a walk around the Carsington Water trail.
